CBDT has issued Notification No. 120/2026 dated 24 September 2026, extending the registration deadline for Registered Valuers and Authorised Income-tax Practitioners to 31 March 2027. The notification also introduces revised Forms 169 and 171 under the Income-tax Rules, 2026. This gives eligible professionals additional time to complete the prescribed registration requirements under the new Income Tax framework.

How Does It Matter to Professionals and Businesses?

The extension is particularly relevant for professionals who are required to register under the new framework but have not yet completed the process. Instead of treating the extension as a reason to postpone compliance, eligible professionals should use the additional time to understand the revised forms, verify their eligibility and complete the required registration.

For businesses and taxpayers engaging such professionals, the change is also worth noting because the Income Tax Act, 2025 and Income-tax Rules, 2026 have introduced a new compliance framework from 1 April 2026. Professional appointments and documentation should therefore be reviewed with reference to the requirements applicable under the new law.
